Wellness Week at Generate

June 12, 2017

What does wellness mean to you? Is it about bigger muscles, green smoothies and HIIT workouts?

Here at Generate, we like to believe that health is all of the above, plus a little bit more. Being healthy means that your mind, body and spirit are all in alignment and nothing is out of balance. It means that you know when to work hard, when to rest, and when a little piece of chocolate cake is in order!

For the past two weeks, we’ve been sharing tips and tricks to do with nutrition and detoxing for the body, and this week it’s all about feeding the soul. Follow along with us as we share our favourite methods for relaxing, unwinding and letting go of the mental chatter.

To kick off #WellnessWeek, here are three healing modalities to try next time you’re in a funk:

  1. Mindfulness meditation. Used for centuries as a means of getting closer to the divine, mindfulness is often used as a calmative aid for sufferers of stress and anxiety in modern society today. The next time you find five minutes in your day to sit by yourself, take note of your breath. Is it short? Sharp? Shallow? Simply notice it without judgment and follow the inhales and exhales with close attention.
  2. Yoga. At Generate, we know the effects a yoga class can have on the mind, body and spirit, which is why we offer at least nine classes a week in styles like hatha, flow & restore and vinyasa! Try our beginner yoga & meditation class Tuesday mornings at 9:15 to get started with this ancient and profound tradition.
  3. Massage. Releasing tension in the muscles can often lead to intense emotional upheavals. You already eat healthy and exercise, so why not treat yourself to a spa day to complete your wellness regime?
