Get to Know the Generate Instructors

Generate wouldn’t be possible without our amazing roster of knowledgeable and caring instructors. With their helpful cueing, thoughtful class sequencing and motivating attitudes, Generate instructors are all about helping you reach your fitness goals and feel your best every day!

Each of our instructors comes from an interesting background and has a unique outlook on the world of fitness, which is why we devoted a whole week to featuring them on our social media pages. Take a peek at the short interviews below to get to know our instructors a little better:

Instructor Elyse

Elyse Stangl

With her awesome sense of humour, relaxed attitude and high-energy moves, Elyse’s classes are both challenging and fun! Elyse teaches barre Mondays at 10:30am and Wednesdays at 7pm, as well as Pilates at 9:30am on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm. Read on to hear from Elyse:
How long have you been instructing?
5 years.
What do you love most about teaching at Generate?
I love the members, I love the neighbourhood feel, I love how strong and dedicated the members are. I love the space.
What’s your favourite healthy eating restaurant in Toronto?
Live Organic Food on Dupont. I love their takeaway stuff. They make these sweet potato noodles that are really delicious. They’re kind of healthy but indulgent at the same time.

Instructor Magz

Magz Kordiuk

All it takes is one look at those killer abs to know that Magz is an awesome instructor! Magz teaches high-intensity classes like HOIST Wednesdays at 6pm and Spin/TRX at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Check out her interview below to get to know her:
How long have you been instructing?
I started in 2007, so 10 years.
What do you love about teaching at Generate?
The people and the windows! I love the fact that it’s environmentally conscious.
What’s your favourite healthy eating restaurant in Toronto?
Grasshopper Restaurant in the junction. It’s all vegan food, I eat whatever is on the menu.

Instructor Georgina

Georgina O’Grady

Not only is Georgina the mom of three beautiful children, but she’s also one heck of a Pilates instructor. Come to her mat classes 10:30am Tuesdays and 9:30am Wednesdays or drop-in reformer 9:30am Tuesdays, 10:30am Wednesdays and 9:30am Thursdays!
How long have you been instructing?
Since 2009, so 8 years.
What do you love about teaching at Generate?
I love the clients and I love that it’s a mixed approach to fitness. Generate is all about working in balance and listening to your body. There’s a class for everybody because it’s really about doing what works best for your body and feeling great.
What’s your favourite healthy restaurant in Toronto?
A place called ImpactKitchen on King Street East. It’s amazing. It’s a great healthy option. I would say the best way to describe it is paleo.

Instructor Peter

Peter Virgile

A longtime fitness instructor and advocate for body positivity, Peter teaches spin Tuesday mornings at 6:15am, Thursdays at 6:30pm, Saturdays at 11:30am and Sundays at 9:15am. Fun fact about Peter: he is an actor and has been featured on big name productions like the Young and the Restless! Read on to find out more about him:
How long have you been teaching?
25 years.
What do you love about teaching at Generate?
I love the people here.
What’s your favourite healthy restaurant in Toronto?
The only place I eat at a lot is The Keg Mansion. I’m a meat and potatoes guy.

Instructor Gad

Gad Espinosa

As an experienced soccer coach and athlete, Gad teaches hardcore fitness classes like Triple Threat, HIIT, TABATA and Butts and Guts! Our muscles are sore just thinking about his classes. Read on to get to know Gad:
How long have you been instructing?
I’ve been coaching soccer for a long time, over 20 years, and teaching fitness for about 7 years.
What do you like about instructing at Generate?
I like that the atmosphere is great. The members come here because it’s a part of their lifestyle. Whether they’re coming to my class or another class, they’re just happy to be here.
What’s your favourite healthy restaurant in Toronto?
I like The Beet in the Junction. I like their kale Caesar salad with chicken.

Fitness Instructors

Portia Albrecht

Last but certainly not least, Portia is the brains (and the brawn!) behind Generate Fitness and all its wonderful classes! A longtime fitness instructor, personal trainer and nurse, Portia teaches a wide variety of classes like HOIST, MELT Method, Spin/TRX and Butts and Guts.
How long have you been instructing?
I got certified as an aerobics instructor when I was 17, so 27 years.
What do you love about teaching at Generate?
I like that I can make up new classes and be creative. I love the members, too! They’re so fun. 🙂
What’s your favourite healthy restaurant in Toronto?
I’d say Byblos is my favourite healthy restaurant. It’s Eastern Mediterranean food. They have great salads and fish dishes!
